Theatre for Life

The 40th Belgrade International Theatre Festival (BITEF), which counts itself among the most respected theatre festivals in the world, was held from September 15-30. The winner of the Mira Trailović Award went to the Hungarian play "The Seagull" directed by Arpad Schilling. For the first time in its history BITEF produced a performance from the official selection; the play "Circus History" directed and choreographed by Sonja Vukićević was well received and has been invited to a theatre festival in Austria. Good Health Is Life

Though Serbia ranks at the very top in the quality of treatment of cardiovascular diseases, the country is unfortunately just behind Russia in the number of recorded heart disease patients, or more precisely, the number of deaths as a result of these diseases. Serbia ranks second in the world: out of every 100 deaths - sixty had a disease related to blood vessels of the heart or brain. More than a million plum trees grow just on the slopes of Sokolske Mountains and Vlašić, out of which four hundred thousand belong to the Požegača and Madžarka sorts. (...)

The nomination of Gamzigrad, an archaeological find in Serbia, has for the first time been nominated for the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. (...)

Dances and Masks

Whenever the land of the Dogons was mentioned, its unusual name made me imagine that I set out to another planet or the world of Harry Potter! And I wasn’t wrong. The land of the Dogons is another planet, a sanctuary and a museum of African culture where one discovers an extraordinary and genuinely fascinating world. This is why UNESCO has included it in the World Cultural Heritage List. (...)
